I have an HP 2100 printer that I would like to make accessible via our home network (Verizon FIOS wireless router). I bought the D-Link DP-301P+ print server and am having a frustrating time getting it to work. I am not very technical, so the helpful comments on the D-Link site were greek to me.
Malware clean-up and hacking recovery plans.
I need the 'Print Server installation for Dummies' version. I can't get my laptop to talk to the web interface for the PS. I think it's an IP address problem, but I'm not sure what to do about it.
If I could figure out how to set a static IP address on the laptop that the print server will like, won't the router not like the laptop anymore? Someone had a great suggestion about resetting the print server and then the router will assign a new IP address to it. Unfortunately, I do not see a reset button on this model. Answering my own question, but I'd like to know how I should have done it. I found an older laptop and hooked it directly to the print server (PS).
I was able to set the laptop's IP address for that specific connection to one the PS could see. I was then able to access the configuration tool for the print server. Once I set the IP address for the PS to one our network could see and switched the cable back over to our router.
I imagine I could have done the same without having to hookup the old laptop since I didn't end up using the PS Admin software, but if someone has a more elegant solution, I'd still love to hear it.
